We got a reminder this past month of why we diversify… and why we invest in both tech stocks and in distinctly “old school” industries. Our All Markets portfolio posted a healthy gain during a period when most market benchmarks were down. On the other hand, our Tech Titans portfolio really took a beating. Before I jump into the numbers, I want to revisit my comments from our performance update on July 10. We had just come off a fantastic month, with the Tech Titans beating the “Magnificent Seven” by an incredible 20 points.

As I write this, tech stocks are getting hammered. The tech-heavy Nasdaq is down about 1.3% on the day and has been trending lower for the past two months. Our Tech Titans portfolio hasn’t been immune.

Since we launched our “Tech Titans” portfolio on January 10, 2025, we’ve beaten the so-called “Magnificent Seven” an astonishing 11-to-1. The chart below tells the story…

The markets are closed today in observance of Independence Day, so I’ll keep this short. I’m sure you have a backyard barbecue waiting for you… or at least an ice-cold beverage. If not, you should probably do something about that!

Our offices – as well as the stock market – are closed today for the Juneteenth federal holiday. So I recommend you take advantage of the break by closing the laptop, putting the phone in silent mode and taking a moment to think about something other than dollars and cents. It’s a hot summer day, perfect for a dip in the pool or a cookout with family and friends!
