As I mentioned on Monday, option trading isn’t a “set-it-and-forget-it” type of thing. Today, we have the opportunity to exit two put-write trades for a respectable profit … so let’s seize it!

Option trading isn’t a “set-it-and-forget-it” type of thing … Proper trade management is key to both maximizing profits and mitigating risk. Today, we have three actions to take. First, we’ll take partial profits on a bullish long-call position that’s been screaming higher.

The put-write trades we entered in June and early July have been taking heat, so today’s bounce in stocks is certainly a welcome development. The market price of the puts we sold is now going down (the direction we want), almost across the board. Of the five put-write positions we’re holding, we remain underwater on four of them. Gold miner Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (FCX) has done what gold positions tend to do … it’s bucked the trend and “zagged” while much of the market “zigged.”
