After running the numbers, Chief Research Analyst Matt Clark and I have determined there are no Wednesday Windfalls trades this week. Of the 15 ETFs used in the strategy, 8 closed up on Friday. However, only 2 of those were down on Monday. Both of those qualified ETFs had relative strength index (RSI) readings that were well above our threshold of 50.

Just a quick note today as everyone’s waiting on the Fed … A rate cut is all but certain tomorrow. It’s only a matter of its size and, more importantly, the market’s reaction. This cut has been anticipated for quite a while, as the July 11 CPI print showed cooling inflation and paved the way for it.

After one of the worst weeks for markets last week, all 15 ETFs we use in the Wednesday Windfalls strategy closed down. Conversely, a strong open today pushed all but two of those ETFs up.

In April 2024, I recommended adding a bullish position targeting the utilities industry. You can read that recommendation here. Since then, the position has consistently moved in our favor.
