I’ve run the numbers, and there are no Wednesday Windfalls trade signals triggering on the 15 exchange-traded funds we’re tracking. With last week’s strong close and this week’s slow start, we aren’t in the right setup for our 48-hour trade. So we’ll press pause and reassess soon.

Back in the old days, well before financial markets were electronic… A man by the name of Charles Dow (1851-1902) came up with an elegantly simple theory that I’ve long argued still applies to markets today. It was the age of industrial production, so market observers kept their eyes peeled on both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Dow Jones Transportation Average — the former was largely made up of manufacturing stocks, while the latter held most railroad stocks.

After running the numbers, Chief Research Analyst Matt Clark and I have determined there are no Wednesday Windfalls trades this week. We did have valid signals on six of our 15 ETFs used in the strategy, but after research and calculation, the implied volatility of these potential trades was too high. Implied volatility is the market’s expectation of future price fluctuations for a stock or an option.
