We’ve talked in recent weeks about how the “Magnificent Seven” is losing its luster. Case in point… The Mag-7 is up just 1.7% so far this year, whereas the rest of the S&P 500 — that is, the S&P 500 minus the Mag-7 stocks — is up a healthier 6.2%.

Last Monday, Chinese AI firm DeepSeek shocked the world — and sent shares of top tech stocks spiraling… More than $1 trillion in market cap evaporated before the closing bell rang that day, with Nvidia (NVDA) alone seeing an unprecedented $600 billion loss on the day. And that was just the beginning…

Big news out over the weekend… A Chinese company called DeepSeek produced an AI model that at least rivals the best American models, including the ones made by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. More so, DeepSeek reportedly spent a mere $5.6 million training the model, or 97% less than what OpenAI is sinking into theirs.
