During the month of September, I sent out three trade alerts that locked in gains of 66%, 124%, and 194%. Two of these gains came from a single trade we opened a little more than a month before, in late July. The third and largest came from an XLU call position we initiated in April of this year.

I take my two boys to the barber once every month or so… Despite the fact that I’ve become skilled at cutting my own hair, their mom would rather them not have my ultra-short “buzz” cut. Leo is almost four years old, and Miles just turned two last month, which means the only way they’ll sit still for 15 minutes is if they sit on my lap. Suffice it to say, it’s quite the experience!

I’m going to keep this week’s update brief since I’m out enjoying some much-needed family time down in the Florida Keys, my old stomping grounds.

It’s been just over two weeks since that wild Monday when the yen carry trade “broke” and forced a bunch of overleveraged hedge funds to liquidate just about everything they owned. If you recall, contagion from that trade’s unwinding caused a wave of panic selling in the stock market. As of the close of August 5, more than 12 stocks trading on the New York Stock Exchange were lower on the day for every one stock that had edged higher — though intraday, the ratio of bearish-to-bullish stocks was closer to 25-to-1.
