Welcome to the Thursday edition of Andrew Zatlin’s Superforecast Trader. It was not a great week for the market… Matt will join in shortly to give more details. But let’s get into jobless claims that were released this morning.

I’m tracking a Super Divergence in jobless claims for this week, which means we’ve got a trading opportunity. First, I’ll share my quick video recap. Then Mr. Clark will give you the specifics:

Welcome to the Thursday edition of Andrew Zatlin’s Superforecast Trader… As you’ve no doubt noticed, we’ve had a busy week. The numbers are in, and jobless claims ticked up by 14,000 to 217,000 — above both the consensus forecast and my estimates.

Under normal circumstances, you won’t hear from me or Andrew until Thursday, but we have a special situation today. Before the market opened, the December Consumer Price Index (CPI) print was released, which was great news for our trade on the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSE: SPY). The “core” CPI came in at 3.2% — slightly lower than Wall Street expectations — while the broader index read a 2.9% increase.

My system has just identified the FIRST Super Divergence of 2025 — so let’s get right down to business. As usual, we’ll start with my macro video update, then you can scroll down for trade specifics from Matt Clark.
