Biotech Sector Grows at a Hypersonic Pace
The biotech sector started, like many others, very small. Biopharmaceuticals was dominated by only a few players in the game. Its $149 billion in revenue for 2012 accounted for only 19% of the global pharmaceutical revenue that year, but its growth has been on a rapid upward trajectory ever since.
By 2026, as the sub-sector continues to expand, pharma revenue from biotechnology is expected to grow to $505 billion — more than 35% of all pharmaceutical revenue.
That puts the biotech sector growth at 239% from 2012 to 2026.
