Hello and welcome to Capitol Gains Trader… Matt Clark has taken a rare vacation this week, and I’m currently traveling, so I’ll keep today’s update brief. We’re now just a few hours away from the first interest rate cut of 2025. Today could be the most pivotal day of the year for determining how things end up.

The United States Navy has now parked a small fleet in the waters just off Venezuela’s coast… Officially, these ships were dispatched to help curb drug smuggling activities (even though Venezuela isn’t really a central hub for trafficking these days).

Right now, three American warships are on their way to patrol international waters off the coast of Venezuela. They’re ostensibly headed down there to curb the runaway activities of the country’s massive drug cartels. But if that’s the case, then why is Venezuela’s army rushing to station 15,000 troops at the border with Colombia?

Love him or hate him, President Donald Trump has committed to making his second presidential term all about transformation. He’s looking out at the country as something of a “CEO-in-Chief,” assessing our unique strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities … and we know that he hasn’t liked everything he’s seen.

Over the last two weeks, we’ve seen a pretty alarming reversal in the economic data coming out of D.C. … Payrolls and inflation data all made it look like the economy was steadily humming along, despite folks like myself ringing the alarm bells about what was actually happening.
