After a slight downturn, weekly jobless claims rose slightly for the week ending May 23, 2026. Initial claims ticked up by 5,000 to 215,000, according to the Labor Department.

Hello, and welcome back to Superforecast Trader! I really hope you enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. This year was even more special for me, since my son Ari just completed his first year at West Point, and he was back home in time to celebrate with the family.

I’m going to jump right in before handing things off to Matt to discuss market performance this week. All I can say is… WOW! The initial jobless claim figures came in from the Labor Department this morning, and “shocked” might be an understatement.
