What a year that was, right?! Inflation reared its ugly head for the first time in 40 years. The beloved “60/40” portfolio put in its worst performance in 50 years. Many of the “story” stocks that ran high into bubble territory in 2021 came crashing down.

This might be a year to forget after the charging bull market was stopped in its tracks. But as I’ve mentioned throughout 2022, certain sectors are primed for outperformance as the rest of the stock market struggles. And I think energy — and more specifically oil and gas — may be one of the only things that works in 2023.
