Last Wednesday, I sent out a Trade Alert to close out your two latest put-write positions. We’d added both positions just ONE day before, on March 31. This was yet another lightning-fast payday — your chance to lock in a quick couple hundred (or couple thousand) dollars in pure profits, just by working with the market’s volatility instead of trying to fight against it.

Volatility is driving today’s markets — and that can be great news for traders like us… We’ve closed out four options trades so far in 2026. Two were triple-digit winners, another yielded a 50% gain in a little over a week, and the fourth left us with a smaller 28% loss. These kinds of fast-moving trades are precisely the reason why we love working with options.

So far this year, the S&P 500 has essentially traded sideways — down less than a half a percent since New Year’s Eve as I write. The once-soaring “Magnificent 7” top tech stocks are likewise not doing so hot. They’re currently down more than 7% on the year, underperforming the broader market.

Given the holiday yesterday and weak market action today, there aren’t any new opportunities that meet the strict criteria of our method. You’ll see on today’s Leaders & Laggards Board that the energy sector has risen to the top of the rankings. I’m watching this sector closely for new opportunities ahead, though we do already have bullish exposure through the long-calls we own on Argentinian oil and gas producer, YPF Sociedad Anonima ADS (YPF), as well as the put-write position we have on Valero Energy (VLO). Those positions are giving us a play on the budding energy-sector trend for now … and I’ll let you know as soon as another opportunity is lined up correctly.

Wow – what a year it’s been! Considering how the S&P 500 fell 19% into the April “Tariff Tantrum” lows, and then didn’t recover to make new highs until July … there were no “easy” bull market gains to be had. Fortunately, we’re traders.
